How long have you been working on targeted muscle reinnervation?

Aszmann: I have been intensively involved in this field since 2006.

Who is eligible for a TMR fitting?

Aszmann: Anyone with enough motivation to undergo a two-year course of therapy and who needs a second hand or arm. Patients in pain, for reafferentation and/or treatment of phantom pain.

What is the difference between a conventional prosthetic fitting and one following TMR surgery?

Aszmann: Establishing multiple intuitive signal levels for improved prosthetic control.

What has feedback from TMR users been like up to now?

Aszmann: It varies quite a bit. For glenohumeral patients, the feedback was predominantly positive, and for transhumeral patients, the feedback was mixed.

How many patients have you operated on?

Aszmann: A total of 30 TMR surgeries in transhumeral and shoulder patients.
